Brush pickup (no leaf collection)

The Hurley Highway Department typically collects brush in late April and early May of each year. (For specifics, see the News & Announcements section of the department's web page.)

Once pickup has been completed in a given area, crews will not return there. Any additional brush, though, can be brought to the Hurley Transfer Station on Dug Hill Road, which will accept it for a fee.

When putting out brush for pickup, please adhere to the following rules:

* All brush must be stacked, with the thicker ends facing the road, so it can be loaded into the chipper easily.

* The brush should be no longer than 6 feet and have a diameter no greater than 4 inches.

* Piles of brush should be no larger than 2 cubic yards, or about the size of two washing machines. (A cubic yard is 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet.)

* No yard debris should be mixed in with the brush.

Brush piles not meeting the requirements above will not be picked up by Highway Department crews.

Also, please note: The Highway Department does NOT have a leaf pickup program. Our yearly road maintenance for drainage requires the removal of leaves and debris in the road ditch lines and catch basins. Leaves and brush from private property may be brought to the Town Transfer Station on Dug Hill Road; please do NOT put them on the edge of roadways, as doing so could block and plug culverts and catch basins.
