'Electrification Opportunities Series' underway, continues at next two Town Board meetings

An ongoing “Electrification Opportunities Series” is providing helpful information about transitioning to clean energy and supports the $20,000 grant challenge from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) that’s underway in Hurley.

At the Feb. 27 meeting of the Town Board, Tom Konrad (pictured), an energy coach and chairman of Marbletown's Environmental Conservation Commission, spoke about split air/heat pump installations, which are highly efficient and cost-effective. When we report five installations in the Town, we are eligible for $5,000 in grant money; 10 installations can get us $10,000. (See grant details  at tinyurl.com/grants-opp.)

At the March 26 Town Board meeting (starting at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall, 10 Wamsley Place), the focus will be signing up for Community Solar. There’s no cost to enroll in the program ,which saves money on electric bills and supports solar energy.

At the April 23 meeting (also starting at 6 p.m. in the Town Hall), presenters will take a closer look at electric vehicle (EV) ownership, sum up the clean energy program, and discuss financial incentives.

If you plan to install a heat pump or sign up for Community Solar, please let Climate Smart Hurley know by sending an email to climatesmart@townofhurley.org.

Four EVs have been registered in Hurley since Nov. 29, 2023. One more purchase makes us eligible for a $5,000 grant.

Climate Smart Task Force meetings in 2024 are on the first Tuesday of each month (with the July and November meeting dates subject to change),  and are held virtually. To join a meeting online, go to meet.google.com/eee-uuvh-ehy. To join by phone, call (912) 712-4401 and enter the PIN 283 106 119#.
