A statement about escrow payments

The Hurley Planning Board has resolved some of the issues with the payment of escrow funds to the Town Planner, and the remaining issues are in the process of being settled.  And it should be noted that the Town Planner has been paid regularly for services unrelated to escrow.

It also must be noted that, prior to 2022, escrow funds from developers and other applicants before the Planning Board were collected inconsistently, which frequently saddled Hurley taxpayers with the cost of the board reviewing applications. This practice was a violation of state law, which the current Town Board rectified in 2022 with the passage of a Local Law.

The Planning Clerk was attempting to set up a new system in accordance with the law, but the process resulted in some backlog of payments, partially due to the ongoing work of setting up the system and partially due to nonpayment of escrow money by certain applicants – and, in one significant case, an applicant's check bouncing.,

Please be assured this matter is in the process of being resolved and the Planning Board looks forward to working with the Town Planner in the near future.
