Town's annual brush pickup starts in late April

The Hurley Highway Department will start its annual brush pickup on April 29 in the West Hurley area (including Glenford) and May 6 on the Old Hurley side of town (including Rolling Meadows).

West Hurley/Glenford residents should put their brush at curbside the weekend of April 27-28. Residents in the Old Hurley area should do so the weekend of May 4-5. (NOTE: There will be no brush pickup at properties Routes 28, 209 or 375 due to traffic safety concerns.)

Once pickup has been completed in a given area, crews will not return there. Any additional brush, though, can be brought to the Hurley Transfer Station on Dug Hill Road, which will accept it for a fee.

When putting out brush for pickup, please adhere to the following rules:

  • All brush must be stacked, with the thicker ends facing the road, so it can be loaded into the chipper easily.
  • The brush should be no longer than 6 feet and have a diameter no greater than 4 inches.
  • Piles of brush should be no larger than 2 cubic yards, or about the size of two washing machines. (A cubic yard is 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet.)
  • No yard debris should be mixed in with the brush.

Brush piles not meeting the requirements above will not be picked up by Highway Department crews.
