Stream Explorers Youth Adventure to be held April 15

Registration is now open for the Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program’s 2023 Stream Explorers Youth Adventure on Saturday, April 15. 

Participants in the free event will meet at the Ashokan Center, 477 Beaverkill Road, Olivebridge, at 8:30 a.m. The event runs through 4 p.m. Morning snacks, lunch and afternoon snacks will be provided.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Participants in the Stream Explorers Youth Adventure will use science models to learn about how streams work, investigate stream ecosystems, and learn to use science tools to assess stream health. They also will play water-related games. 

During the hands-on event, the young people will:

* Investigate stream ecosystems.
* Explore the dynamics of a stream.
* Hike to a waterfall.
* Learn from stream educators and water scientists.
* Learn to become protectors of water resources.

Participants must be in grades 3 through 7 and be residents of the Ashokan Watershed, which includes the town of Hurley.

REGISTRATION

There is no cost to participate, but space is limited and preregistration is required by April 6 (maximum of two children per family).

WHAT TO BRING

Participants should be prepared for a variety of weather conditions by dressing in layers with an all-weather jacket and appropriate shoes (no open-toed shoes). They also should bring stream boots, but boots will be provided for those who don’t have their own.

Also to bring: A reusable water bottle (no glass please), bug repellant and sunscreen.

All other supplies and equipment will be provided by the organizers.
