Peace Tree planting in Kingston

Event Date:
Wednesday, June 21, 2023 - 4:30pm to 7:00pm

The city of Kingston will host a Peace Tree Planting/Summer Solstice ceremonial event in front of City Hall, 420 Broadway, on Wednesday, June 21, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The ceremony is in partnership with the Turtle Clan Chief Vincent Mann of the Ramapough Munsee Lunaape Nation, Bear Clan Chief Kawasente of the Kahnawake Mohawk Community, Nettop Keetop, and Nick Miles lead drummer of the American Native Association, along with some ANA members.

The Tree of Peace planting encourages people of all backgrounds to live together in peace and to put aside feelings of hatred, prejudice and judgment. The event will include singing, dancing, drumming, the sharing of food, and words of thanksgiving acknowledging our connectedness to the natural world and each other.

This event marks “our willingness to work together for peace and protection,” Kingston Mayor Steve Noble said in a statement. “I am hopeful this symbol of peace will serve as an inspiration to all visitors to City Hall in the years to come.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or cushions and plenty of water.
