Present: Joan Paccione (chair), Tom Schneller Kristen Schara, Virginia Starke, David Yozzo
Public Meeting: Joan Paccione announced that the joint public meeting between the C.A.C. and the New York Rural Water Association (NYRWA) will be on Wednesday, January 6 at 7 p.m. at the West Hurley Fire House, Wall Street, West Hurley. Steve Winkley of the NYRWA will discuss his recently released Groundwater Study and Protection Plan for the Glenford and West Hurley areas. Mr. Winkley will do a power point presentation including charts and maps as well as showing potential sources of contamination and outlining protection strategies.
Next C.A.C. Meeting: Because of the public meeting on January 6, it was decided to move the next C.A.C. meeting to Thursday, January 8.
Open Space Maps: Last month we discussed what to add to the various maps of the open space areas we'd like to see preserved. At this meeting, Tom Schneller went over the important areas around Dug Hill for a map which would complement his written report.. Kristen Schara will ask the Ulster County Planning Department to produce a map of this area with the new additions.
E.M.C. Joint Meeting: Virginia Starke reported on the November meeting of the Ulster County Environmental Management Council at which representatives of most of the county's town environmental groups were asked to summarize their current projects. Unfortunately, despite many letters to the County Executive as to the importance of this position, the administrative assistant of the county Department of the Environment is being laid off due to budget cuts. This will make it extremely difficult for the Department as well as the E.M.C. to continue their important and effective work.
Open Burning: As of October 14, open burning in barrels and piles, including the burning of leaves, is no longer permitted anywhere in New York State. The C.A.C. outlined the details of this new regulation for the upcoming Town newsletter. Fines start at $375.
